Meagan Morrison (TRAVELWRITEDRAW)

The Technical Stuff

She was quoted by Vanity Fair in September 2015 as saying “I work on a pretty large scale—I don’t like to be limited.” Creating her illustrations with watercolours, markers, acrylics, colouring pencils and pens, scanning them onto a computer and adjusting them on Photoshop.

Evidence from interviews conducted with Meagan suggests that her favourite medium is hand painting illustrations, using inks and Gouache paints on watercolour paper.

”There is spontaneity in live painting that can’t be replaced or replicated with computers”.

Meagan is drawn to colours, patterns and textures, with most of her illustrations showing the motion of clothing. She always starts off an illustration with hair, selecting the correct shade or texture to compliment her work.

The signature that she evokes through each illustration is the life that she breathes into the clothing using different brush strokes and layering of colours to create depth and movement. This technique that she uses is what i would like to recreate in my own illustrations as i feel that the illustration becomes three dimensional, adding character to the figure and also what adds the feel of high fashion.
